Dear friends,

It’s been a while since my last newsletter, and life has been wonderfully busy. One of the greatest joys of recent months has been my father’s visit—his first time experiencing my home, city, and daily life. It was truly special to introduce him to my dear friends at Capricornia Printmakers and take him to the Rockhampton Museum of Art, where I was fortunate to have work on display in Collection Focus | Capricornia Printmaker and to be engaged in Making Space during the Know My Name traveling exhibition. We made lasting memories, and I’m deeply grateful for that time together.

I’m also excited to share news of my recent and upcoming exhibitions in the order of opening dates.

CYPRESS GROWING SEASON

I had the privilege of receiving a solo exhibition offer from curator Marguerite Brown at Whitehorse Artspace. The exhibition opened beautifully on International Women’s Day, with the help of many friends and printmakers from the gallery and the Print Council of Australia.

It was especially meaningful for me to open the exhibition on IWD and share my personal experience as a woman navigating my art practice in regional Australia with a diverse multicultural background. It was also a privilege to express my views on women's rights, which, at their core, I see as a simple mother’s wish for her children to experience fairness in the world, regardless of gender, race, religion, or borders.

In acknowledgment of women in my country and around the world, Cypress Growing Season reflects my ongoing exploration of resilience and hope. Inspired by Persian gardens and poetry, I wanted to create a vision of forests growing into peaceful landscapes. The cypress tree, a symbol of strength and endurance, became central to this work, a reminder that even in difficult times, we can plant hope and nurture change.

The exhibition showcases my passion for sculptural works, with three new pieces accompanying ten new lino prints.

An exhibition showcasing a dynamic collection of works on paper by Sonja Carmichael, Elisa Jane Carmichael, Niloufar Lovegrove (Pishva), and Elysha Rei. This exhibition explores the tensile qualities and materiality of paper, while metaphorically highlighting the deep connections these artists maintain with their cultural identities.

The exhibition features Equable Goddess, an ambitious 54-panel linocut print that spans the gallery’s largest wall, as well as several of my new prints from the Hand Series, which I originally created for my solo exhibition Cypress Growing Season in Melbourne.Essay writer Sally Molloy eloquently states, “… it might be this shared approach to materiality that lends works in Tensile Connections a collective sense of powerful softness: a tactile strength registered in the artists’ use of paper toward cultural resurgence, but also resistance.”

This past year has been full of family, reflection, and creative opportunities. As the new year unfolds, I’m grateful for the connections, support, and inspiration that continue to shape my journey.

Thank you, as always, for being part of it.

Warm wishes,

Niloufar
