The Hand Series, while created in blue tones, is quite hot at the moment—on display in three different states at the moment!
This collection of six lino prints was created for my solo show, Cypress Growing Season, at Whitehorse Artspace, Melbourne, running until 26th April. Curator Margueritte Brown, has written a beautiful article about them and my practice, featured in the latest IMPRINT magazine.
They are also on display at Onespace, Brisbane, alongside Equable Goddess and the incredible works of Sonja Carmichael, Elisa Jane Carmichael, and Elysha Rei until 4th April. Sally Molloy has written a beautiful essay on it that you can find it in my previous news post.
Additionally, Echoed Shelter, one of the blue hand prints, is part of the group show Edition6, curated by More Than Reproduction, at Our Neon Foe, Sydney until the end of March.
Each piece is printed on two layers of paper before being sewn with motifs inspired by Persian kilims. If you look closely, you might spot a small scribble-like stamp near the bottom. But it’s not just a scribble—it’s actually text in Farsi, and here’s the story behind it:
I was 7 or 8 years old when my dad took my brother and me to see his new office. It had a view of the street and roundabout, and we loved the swivel chairs and big desks. We thought the stamps with his name and company logo were amazing!
Later, he made us each a personalised stamp with our names, which became my most treasured possession.
In October 2023, while tidying up my workspace, I came across it and wondered why I hadn’t been using it earlier! So from now on, all my new prints will be stamped with my name in Farsi.
I hope this little extra mark on the Hand Series reconnects you with fond childhood memories of treasured keepsakes.
