Don Ireland Swimming Pool
Emu Park, 2018
USING A LOUD PALETTE TO GIFT WRAP THE SWIMMING POOL BUILDING THAT IS SITTING IN THE OPEN GREEN AREA WAS MY PLAN.
This project was available through Livingstone Shire Council 's Placemaking Program in 2018.
I really enjoyed this project with its unusual bright, loud colour palette, I enjoyed the friendly passers-by's encouraging comments, I loved the look on the school kids' faces as they marched past the painting while coming up with suggestions of what to paint next and I definitely enjoyed learning more through the work,I think creating a public art is about the purpose of the area, the audience of that area as well as staying within your own artistic style. For instance, Don Ireland Swimming Complex is located in an open area of natural greens and blues and home to a variety of birds. I didn't want my design wipe out the shadows of nearby trees on the surface of the wall so the patterns of the vines in the background welcomes the abundance of birds in the area and add a surreal atmosphere for the swimmer figures.
